  • ED Consultation Cost in South Africa: 4 Essential Things to Know
erectile dysfunction consultation cost South Africa

At Erectile Dysfunction Clinic, the initial consultation is R2 500. That covers the full assessment: your history, the pattern of the difficulty, your general health and medication, and a discussion of what should happen next. Any care beyond that assessment is discussed with you first, and nothing is started without your agreement.

Two things are worth knowing before you assume this is entirely out of pocket with no offset at all: naturopathic consultations in South Africa are rarely covered as a guaranteed medical aid benefit, but they do qualify as a deductible medical expense with SARS. Fees elsewhere vary widely, so the sections below cover what actually drives the cost of erectile dysfunction care in South Africa.

1. What Actually Determines the Cost

A few factors typically affect what a consultation costs: whether it’s your first consultation, usually longer, covering a full history, or a follow-up; whether it’s in person at our Sandton practice or a remote consultation; whether it includes reviewing existing blood test results, or just the consultation itself; and any follow-up plan or ongoing support built into the package. We’ll always confirm the exact cost with you before you book, so there are no surprises.

2. Medical Aid Rarely Covers This as a Guaranteed Benefit

Naturopathic consultations are not classified as a Prescribed Minimum Benefit (PMB) under South African medical scheme regulation, they sit in a category most schemes treat as a day-to-day or savings-account benefit rather than a guaranteed, separately-funded one. Whether you’re covered at all depends heavily on your specific scheme and plan, not just whether you “have medical aid.” Some schemes maintain networks of practitioners with more favourable cover, it’s worth checking your specific scheme’s rules directly before your appointment.

3. It Qualifies as a Tax-Deductible Medical Expense

Under South African Revenue Service (SARS) rules, fees paid to a registered naturopath are recognised as a qualifying medical expense, alongside those paid to other registered practitioners such as GPs, dentists, and physiotherapists. Keep your invoice, this can be included when calculating your medical expense tax credit, even where medical aid doesn’t cover the consultation directly.

4. What R2 500 Buys, and What Comes After

The R2 500 initial consultation is the assessment itself, and it is the only figure you need in order to decide whether to come in. It is not a deposit against a treatment package and it does not commit you to anything further. If your assessment points to blood tests, those are arranged through a pathology laboratory and billed by them, not by us. If it points to a referral, you will be told that plainly — and a referral costs you nothing here. Follow-up consultations and any ongoing naturopathic care are quoted separately and discussed with you before anything begins. The clinic is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and you do not need an appointment, so there is no booking fee and no waiting list to price in.

Cost is only one of the things worth asking about. We also cover what to ask a clinic before you book, including how to confirm the practitioner is registered.
