  • What to Expect at Your First Consultation: 5 Essential Steps
what to expect at your first consultation

What to expect at your first consultation is usually the biggest thing standing between men and actually booking one, uncertainty is often more uncomfortable than the appointment itself turns out to be. Most men report relief afterwards rather than the dread they expected beforehand. Here are the five steps involved, so there’s nothing left to guess at.

Step 1: What to Expect at Your First Consultation | Booking

You can book by phone, WhatsApp, or through our contact page, whichever feels most comfortable. Nothing about the booking process requires you to explain your situation in detail upfront, that conversation happens privately, in the consultation itself, not before it.

Step 2: The Consultation Itself

This is mainly a conversation. We’ll take a full history: when the difficulty started, whether it happens in every situation or only some, what’s changed recently in your health, lifestyle and medications, and any relevant medical history. This single conversation often points clearly toward a likely cause, physical, hormonal, or psychological, before anything else is needed. There’s no physical examination as part of a naturopathic consultation; where one is medically necessary, that’s arranged through the appropriate referral. You’ll also have space to ask your own questions, about the process, about what’s realistic to expect, or simply to understand your own situation better before deciding on next steps.

Who You’ll Be Speaking To

Your consultation is with George Mulaudzi, a Naturopath. Working within a clearly defined, registered scope of practice means you get an honest picture of what naturopathic care can genuinely offer, and a direct, unhesitating referral where something else is more appropriate.

Step 3: Confidentiality

Everything discussed is private. This is a genuinely common concern, and a reasonable one, but it shouldn’t be a reason to delay getting help. Whether you’re booking in person at our Sandton practice or remotely from anywhere in South Africa, the same discretion applies either way.

Step 4: Your Personalised Plan

Based on your history, we’ll discuss what’s likely contributing and build a plan around nutrition, lifestyle, and circulation-supportive naturopathic care within our registered scope of practice. If your situation looks like it needs medical diagnosis, blood tests, medication, or a specialist, we’ll say so directly and support you in getting the right referral, rather than trying to manage everything ourselves. This isn’t a generic checklist handed to every patient, it’s built around what’s actually relevant to your specific history, health status and goals.

Step 5: Follow-Up

Most plans involve a follow-up to see how things are progressing and adjust if needed. Change often takes weeks to months rather than days, so follow-up consultations are built around realistic timelines, not pressure to see instant results. If a referral was made alongside your naturopathic plan, follow-up is also a chance to bring both threads together, how the medical side and the lifestyle side are progressing, so nothing falls through the gap between the two.

What We Won’t Do

We won’t promise a permanent cure, a guaranteed result, or pressure you into ongoing appointments you don’t want. We won’t judge you, rush you, or make assumptions about your situation before you’ve had a chance to explain it. And we won’t claim to treat anything outside a naturopath’s registered scope, surgery, prescription medicine, injections, or testosterone replacement therapy sit with a medical doctor, and we’ll tell you honestly when that’s the right next step.

A Private Self-Check

Click an answer on each question to see what it might suggest. Just a few things worth thinking through before you book.

1. Have you been putting off booking mainly because you’re not sure what happens?

That’s genuinely the most common reason men delay, and usually the uncertainty turns out to be worse than the actual conversation.
Good, then whatever else is holding you back, at least the “what happens” part isn’t the barrier.
2. Would you prefer an in-person consultation in Sandton, or a remote one?

Our Sandton practice is available for in-person consultations, the process is identical to what’s described above.
Remote consultations cover the same history and conversation, wherever you’re based in South Africa.
3. Do you have a rough idea of when your symptoms started and how they’ve changed?

That’s genuinely useful information to have ready, though we’ll also help draw it out through the conversation itself.
No problem, most men aren’t sure of exact timelines, the consultation itself is built to help piece this together.
4. Do you have a current list of medications or health conditions?

Bringing this along, or having it ready for a remote consultation, genuinely speeds up building an accurate picture.
Worth jotting down what you can remember beforehand, even a rough list helps.
5. Is confidentiality a concern that’s been holding you back specifically?

Everything discussed is private, both in person and remotely, this is a reasonable concern but shouldn’t be a reason to delay.
Good, then you’re likely ready to book whenever suits you.

Whatever your answers, the first step is simply booking, everything else gets worked through together in the consultation itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a physical examination at the first consultation?
No, a naturopathic consultation is conversation-based. Where a physical exam or specific test is medically necessary, that’s arranged through the appropriate referral.

How long does the first consultation take?
First consultations are generally longer than follow-ups, since they involve a full history, contact us for the current specific timing.

Will I need to undress or be examined?
No, the consultation is a conversation, not a physical examination.

What if I’m not comfortable talking about this in person?
A remote consultation covers exactly the same ground and may feel more comfortable for some men, either option is entirely reasonable.

Do I need a referral to book?
No, you can book directly. If your situation needs a referral to another professional, that’s arranged after your assessment, not before.

What happens if I need medical treatment you don’t provide?
We’ll tell you honestly and support you in getting the right referral, rather than trying to manage something outside our scope of practice.
